Clearness and Counsel Committee PDF Print E-mail
Membership:    Six to nine individuals selected for their familiarity with Friends’ philosophy, customs, faith, and practice.

Terms:    Three-year terms in three classes.  There is no rule, but the expectation is that committee members will cycle off for a year before being reappointed to another three-year term.

Meetings:    Monthly at the Clerk’s call.

General Responsibilities:    Counsel and provide practical aid to those suffering from illness, infirmity,
emotional turmoil, financial problems or other distress. (2) Provide counsel and mediation to
help resolve conflicts among members and attenders.
All discussions within the committee should remain confidential unless a specific exception is agreed to.

Specific Responsibilities:   
1. provide for a sensitive and caring community, attending to the needs of
members and attenders to share joys and sorrows and to cope with adversities

2.  receive and act upon requests for
a.  membership
b.  marriages
c.  welcoming for children born to or adopted by members or attenders of the Meeting
d.  transfer of membership (in coming or out going) and report approval or disapproval to the clerk, who then handles the paper work

3.  counsel on end-of-life arrangements and oversee memorial meetings

4.  arrange for and serve on clearness committees when requested

5.  explain Friends faith and practice to attenders or outside groups requesting
information or expressing interest in the Meeting or the Religious Society of
Friends 
6.  keep in touch with non-resident members of the Meeting

7.  consider recommending discontinuance of membership of Friends who indicate lack of interest in the Meeting by failure to communicate with the Meeting over an extended period of time

8. respond to all requests for scholarship funds.  Current categories are adult attendance, youth attendance, and the Perera Fund.

Clerk:    Named by the committee members.
 
First Day School Committee PDF Print E-mail
Membership:  Open to all interested individuals.

Term:         One year, but may serve unlimited consecutive terms.

Meetings:    Upon the call of the clerk.

General Responsibilities:
The First-Day School Committee organizes activities for the children during
Meeting for worship and at some other times.  (We need to specify who organizes childcare for business meeting, for social hour if needed, and for special events.)

Specific Responsibilities:
The First-Day School Committee:
1.  Gives support to teachers.
2.  Recruits volunteer teachers.
3.  Purchases materials and equipment necessary to implement the curriculum.
4.  Plans special programs and occasions for the First-Day schoolers, such as Christmas
gatherings and Quarterly Meeting programs.
5.  Is prepared to procure substitute teachers when needed.

Clerk:     Named by the committee members.
 
Building and Grounds Committee PDF Print E-mail
Membership:  Unlimited

Term:  One year, but may serve unlimited consecutive terms.

Meetings:  on call of the Committee clerk

General Responsibilities:  To insure that the meetinghouse and grounds are properly maintained and cared for at all times.

Specific Responsibilities: 
1.  oversees every aspect of maintenance of the meetinghouse and grounds.
2.  makes certain that public safety ordinances are observed.
3.  assists the Finance Committee in maintaining adequate fire, theft, and liability insurance coverage.
4.  provides for meetinghouse custodial (housekeeping) care.
5.  provides for lawn care, tree care, and snow removal.
6.  recommends to the Meeting necessary improvements, addition to equipment, repairs and replacement, and provides estimates of the cost of such.
7.  maintains access to accurate records of all maintenance and utilities costs.
8.  keeps building plans and surveys and ensures continuity of care for them.

Clerk:  named by the Committee members.
 
Social Committee PDF Print E-mail
Membership:  Open to all able and willing individuals.

Term:  One year, but may serve unlimited consecutive terms.

Meetings:  Upon call of the committee clerk or any other member.

General Responsibilities: 
The Social Committee provides, prepares, or oversees refreshment and fellowship after meeting for worship and at gatherings and Meeting-sponsored occasions.

Specific Responsibilities:
The Social Committee:
1.  provides a roster of individuals responsible for serving refreshments (replaces “coffee and juice) following meeting for worship.
2.  cares for and maintains the kitchen and the inventory of supplies.
3.   advises other committees in their preparations for social occasions.
4.  prepares the Christmas pot-luck, the Quarterly Meeting dessert and beverage, and whatever additional function the Meeting elects in its sponsorship of occasions called by Oversight and Counsel or by Ministry and Worship.

Clerk:  Named by the Committee members.
 
Naming Committee PDF Print E-mail
Membership:  Two individuals who between them are thoroughly acquainted with participants in the meeting’s activities.

Term:  Beginning at November’s business meeting, reporting at December’s business meeting.  May serve unlimited consecutive terms.

Selection:  Appointed by the meeting at November’s business meeting.

General Responsibility:  Nominates individuals to serve on the nominating committee.

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Nominates two individuals each December to replace members cycling off the nominating committee.
2. As needed throughout the year of their appointment (that is, throughout the year after their November appointment), nominates individuals to fill vacated  nominating committee positions.

Clerk:  Named by the committee.
