"Eyes Wide Open" in White Plains Print E-mail
Scarsdale Peace & Social Concerns Committee, in conjunction with Purchase and Chappaqua Monthly Meetings, staged the New York State version of the AFSC "Eyes< Wide Open" exhibit in White Plains on Friday  November 3.
This exhibit, aimed at building public awareness of the cost of the Iraq war in both lives and dollars, features a formation of some 125 army combat boots, each labeled with the name, age and home town of a New York State service person killed in Iraq. There is also a token exhibit of civilian shoes, each labeled with the name of an Iraqui civilian killed in the war.
There was a reading of the names of service persons killed in Iraq, including age and home town for each. There was also a candle light vigil attended by
Quakers from all over Westchester.

Advice and Queries

Query 13
Do we maintain Friends' testimony against war? Do we "live in the virtue of that life and power which takes away the occasion of all wars"? Are we exerting our influence in favor of settlement of all differences by truly nonviolent methods? Do we strive to transmit to everyone an understanding of the basis of our peace testimony?
